Entertainment Maker Faire Style

“We’re pleased to have committee member Rick Kinney managing the live entertainment portion of Maker Faire weekend”, said Jane Applegate, Maker Faire Fort Wayne Event Producer.  “Rick owns Even Keel Event Productions and produces music events professionally.  He worked to book entertainment that fits this unique event.  Plus, he’s an audio engineer so he knows how to lead a team that makes sure the music sounds good.  Rick also plays musical instruments he’s made and has been the drummer for Moser Woods for more than a decade.  Moser Woods is playing at the Maker Faire along with the Afro-Disiacs, Dan Dickerson’s, Harp Condition, Kenny Bergle, and others so we know the music will be great as well.  Thanks to Rick for his work and to all our performers for entertaining us at the Maker Faire.”

Let us know if you would like to play at the Maker Faire but please know, this is a fund-raiser so dollars for bands is currently limited.

When Kinney was asked why he joined the Maker Faire committee and agreed to book all the bands, he said, “As a professional artist, I wanted to bring new ideas to the Maker Faire table and ensure the event included a live musical performance aspect because so many musicians are Makers.  As a Maker who also happens to be a musician, I thought there should be original music played by musicians who are also Makers.”

Kinney believe kids should get out of the house and away from the TV.  He said, “A cool event like the Maker Faire gets parents spending quality one-on-one time with their kids.  I knew the Maker Faire would also invigorate and trigger creativity in their minds.”

“Ever since I was a kid I’ve been banging on objects.  I’ve also always been interested in the laws of resonation so I made a Doppler bell made of steel and use it to produce interesting sounds as it spins.  My Dad always said, we can make anything – but you have to put it down on paper.  He’s a master machinist so he helped me build the Doppler Bell about 11 years ago.”

When asked as a Maker and a musician, what does he love about music?  Kinney said, “We’re surrounded by music in nature as music is a universal language.  Music has ended wars.  Music has opened people’s minds to new dimensions.  Music saved my life.”
