FWR Maker Faire Announces “The Race”

The Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire – Powered by TekVenture has officially launched “The Race” – a featured activity of our 2012 event.  “The Race” (not affiliated with PPPRS) consists of modifying a child’s electric ride on vehicle for adults to ride.  Create your vehicle and bring it to Headwaters Park Oct. 6&7 to drag race through an obstacle course that includes water, gravel, sand, and bark.  The fastest time will earn bragging rights.  Check out the details (including all rules) and registration information.

Wet Swing Set Brings Cools Riders at RiverFest

Thanks to Makers Steve Tumbleson, Peter Bolakowski, Casey Drudge, Chris Highlen, Greg Jacobs, BJ Harper, and others who helped make the Wet Swing Set a reality.

It was touch and go throughout the day but finally all technical kinks were worked out, the generator actually worked, and safety was assured, so swingers had the chance to not-get-wet.   Check out Tekventure on Facebook to see a complete photo album.

If you have an innovative idea like the Wet Swing Set and want to share it with others, register as a Maker for the Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire.

FWR Maker Faire Makers Showcase Wet Swing Set at RiverFest 2012

Come to RiverFest at IPFW this Saturday, June 23 from 10 am- 8 pm to take a ride on our new Wet Swing Set.  We’ll be located between the beach volleyball court and the farm equipment – they just didn’t know what to do with us.

TekVenture Makers are building this unique ride to showcase how control systems can be used to change a same-old-thing to something new.

In case you can’t visit us this weekend, you’ll have another chance to avoid getting wet as The Wet Swing Set will be at Headwaters Park East Oct. 6 & 7 for the 2012 FWR Maker Faire.

Aaron Makin First Maker to Register for 2012 FWR Maker Faire

Local Maker, appropriately named Aaron Makin, is the first to submit Call for Makers for the 2012 Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire – Powered by TekVenture.  Welcome Aaron!

Last year Aaron brought his home-built trebuchet but this year he’s going smaller.  He’s bringing his egg-o-pult so be ready to see yellow.

Aaron also says to bring on your power belt-sander as he’s bringing his belt-sander “track” for racing throughout the weekend.

Come join Aaron at this 2nd annual event designed as a forum for Makers to share the cool things they’re making with each other and the general public.

The Faire features silkscreening, robots, sustainable technology, electronics and more, all with an emphasis on “do it yourself”.

The mission of the Fort Wayne Regional Maker Faire is to present interesting or unique exhibits, individuals, and demonstrations in DIY science, technology, engineering, and art that excite, motivate, and educate. The emphasis is on cool things, skills, and knowledge. As a shorthand, the exhibits are the kind of thing you’d see in Make Magazine. The Faire is organized by TekVenture, a Fort Wayne area non-profit promoting the informal technology culture, and is organized in cooperation with Maker.
